To compare the functional and radiological outcome between external fixation and volar plating for the treatment of intraarticular distal end radius fractures

Background: Fracture of distal radius may be stable that is extra-articular, non-comminuted without radio ulnar joint disruption or unstable intra-articular, comminuted displaced with disruption. Complications fractures are shortening due to bone loss resorption the cancellous from metaphysis, resistant deformity, residual pain, late collapse, carpal arthritis and gross functional impairment. Aims Objective: The purpose this study compare relative efficacy external fixation versus plating regard radiological outcome. Materials Methods: Total 60 patients having intraarticular end fracture were included in was equally divided into two groups, one group treated by fixator other volar locking compression plate augmentation k-wire. Follow-up done after 2 weeks, 4 6 weeks 3 ,6 12 months. evaluation performed Sarmiento’s Modification Lindstrom’s Criteria. With Modified Mayo Wrist Score, patient’s outcomes assessed both groups compared. Results: In we found had good excellent outcome 73% cases 07% fair however 50% poor 17% cases. Conclusion: our study, showed use an a for treatment radial reliable. simplicity use, low surgical exposure, decreased trauma benefits fixation. Despite these plates augmented k wire results terms early rehabilitation less complications related wrist joint. External ligamentotaxis provide significant communited fracture.
